ESG

ESG - a new vector of sustainable development. The topic of sustainable development was widely discussed at the panel session «ESG Principles in Industrial Waste Management» of GEWR Business Forum in Nur-Sultan. ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance principles) can be decoded as «environment, social policy and corporate governance», where E - issues related to the company's impact on the environment and climate, S - issues related to the quality of relations with employees, contractors, counterparties, G - corporate governance issues.

Representatives of the KazEnergy Association, the ESG Centre of Expertise of the Institute of Economic Research under the Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan, the Association of Mining and Metallurgical Enterprises and West Dala took a part in the discussion as speakers. Atameken in Kazakhstan has adopted a National Corporate Governance Code, where disclosure of ESG information is a key determinant of governance transparency. The Kazakhstan Stock Exchange introduced mandatory ESG reporting from 2021.

«For companies in the industrial waste management sector, the topic of ESG will become increasingly relevant as many industries gradually move towards a sustainable development model. In particular, this applies to Kazakhstan's oil and gas industry», - said forum speaker Dias Khabiev, Director for Corporate Development of West Dala.
The panelists were unanimous in saying that ESG sustainability approaches improve the way companies do business and increase their investment attractiveness.
