TCO FORUM

Tengizchevroil LLP (TCO) hosted a Waste Management Forum in Atyrau last week. International waste management practices were discussed at the event, as well as suggestions for TCO's waste management practices to business partners providing waste management/recycling services. In particular, issues related to the TCO bidding process; requirements for business partners to ensure safety and environmental compliance in waste management; issues of attracting new and effective methods of waste management aimed at reducing the negative impact on the environment were covered.

In addition to business partners, which include West Dala, the Forum was attended by representatives of the KazWaste Association with a presentation on "The Role of National Standards of Kazakhstan in the Field of Waste Management", as well as the Association of Legal Entities "Euro-Asian Association Green Economy" with a presentation on "Clarification of Requirements of National Standards for Certain Types of Waste".

One of the most important presentations at the Forum was by Mansur Oshurbaev, a representative of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan. He spoke about the main sections of the new Environmental Code in terms of waste management, which aims to take preventive measures to avoid the negative impact on the environment based on the principle of "polluter pays and corrects".

As noted by all participants of the event, the Forum has become an important platform for discussion of current challenges and tasks between the state, business, and non-governmental sector.
