Under quarantine conditions, the akimat of the city of Atyrau has organized work to disinfect streets, public places and various facilities with the involvement of specialized companies, including West Dala, to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection. Special measures are taken when collecting medical waste, municipal solid waste (MSW) from urban centers with COVID-19 and places of temporary residence of citizens who have been in contact with identified infected with Covid-19.
Disinfection of containers and special equipment for waste collection is an integral part of the process during the waste management stages at West Dala, but this measure is intensified at the time of quarantine. Since 6th of April this year, the company performs disinfection in 4 stages:
- at sites where waste is collected;
- before loading the waste into the truck;
- after unloading waste in treatment and disposal sites;
- before sending recycling bins for solid waste or containers for medical waste.
Disinfection process is performed by West Dala specialists in special protective equipment and using respiratory and eye protection equipment.
In practice, the process looks like this: in the quarantine sites, trained employees of the company decontaminate the location of the bunker with solid waste, then the bunker itself and the bunker truck, which delivers waste to the places of their processing and disposal. The procedure is repeated again when unloading waste and preparing the bunker and skip loader for a new exit.
The same algorithm is used for the removal of medical waste: the area occupied by the container is disinfected, as well as the container itself at the time of loading into special vehicles. Further, medical waste is delivered to the company's facility, where, after the next disinfection, it is disposed of by a thermal method.
West Dala notes that such enhanced measures are necessary to combat the spread of COVID-19.
